The Design Committee is charged with knowing about and improving the "look" of the downtown Historic Waterfront District in New London. Its work can be as simple as improving street signs or the appearance of our parking lots or as complex as reviewing the restoration or building plans for an entire downtown structure.

The goal of the Design Committee is to make or encourage improvements in the Historic Waterfront District's physical appearance through design education and technical assistance.

The Economic Enhancement Committee works on the nuts and bolts of economic development in the downtown Historic Waterfront District. It analyzes current economic conditions, seeks sources of business funding, seeks to improve economic conditions for existing businesses, recruits new businesses, and generally facilitates new and existing Main Street programs to increase the likelihood they will be beneficial to the economic climate in the district.

The Goal of the Economic Enhancement Committee is to strengthen and broaden the economic base of the downtown through collecting, interpreting, and using market data; strengthening and retaining current businesses; stimulating the adaptive reuse of existing space; and recruiting new businesses into The District.

The Organization Committee works on communication, membership development, and volunteer recruitment, training and recognition. It publishes our newsletter for members three times each year, sends speakers to other groups or organizations in New London, and plans and coordinates our Annual Meeting in May.

The goal of the Organization Committee is to establish a strong Main Street organization that utilizes a growing number of participants in the implementation and funding of the program through internal and external communication and membership development.

The Promotion Committee seeks to blend the Main Street program into a coherent marketing, advertising, and public relations program for all of the downtown Historic Waterfront District in New London. This process can include sponsoring or holding special events, helping retailers market themselves better, or working with marketing professionals to determine ways to attract new customers for downtown.

The goal of the Promotion Committee is to market the Historic Waterfront District, establish a unified image, and encourage an exciting variety of activities for all members of the community through development of image campaigns, retail events, and festivals; a marketing strategy; and an annual calendar of events.
