Soldiers & Sailors Monument

Pay homage to the dedicated soldiers and sailors who fought for the country during the Civil War at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument at the Parade Plaza, across from Union Station and at the intersection of Bank and State Streets. The 50-foot tall granite obelisk was privately donated by the Lawrence family and dedicated in 1896. The Monument showcases a soldier and sailor at its base, a feminine sign of peace on the top, and the names of Civil War battles listed on its sides.
