Connecticut's newest state park, in addition to providing breathtaking views of New London harbor, Fort Trumbull features a solid granite, hexagonal, Egyptian revival style fort. Built in 1852, the fort replaced an earlier fortification that dated back to 1777 and played a critical role in the American Revolution. The park's visitors center is dedicated to military history and various artillery displays. You might be lucky enough to catch the U.S. Coast Guard's tall ship Eagle, a frequent visitor to the pier, and get a free tour of the ship.
