Having just finished my sophomore year at UCONN, I wanted to find an internship that would give me both real world experience and experience in writing. As an English and Journalism double major, I knew that real world experience with writing would prove to be invaluable.

I was excited when I found the internship with New London Main Street. The internship was labeled a “writing internship,” so I was immediately interested. I scheduled an interview and made sure to look at the website beforehand. When the time came, I met with Joanne Gibson, the Community Outreach Manager, and when offered the position I was quick to take it.

I’ve been at New London Main Street for about three weeks, and I’ve really enjoyed my experience so far. Although I’ve only been coming in part-time (I start full-time soon) I’ve already had a wealth of opportunities. I’ve been able to explore downtown and gather an idea of the character it holds. I was able to attend New London Main Street’s Annual Meeting and see how it proceeded. Also, I was given my first writing assignment last week, which came with the opportunity to interview owners and staff at the local bakeries.

So far my summer internship is off to a wonderful start. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer brings!
