We have best practices from our debut season this winter as a starting point. Desired skills: excellent writing, interpersonal, organizational, research and follow-up skills.
Event Planning Intern: Help to plan events! Attend professional meetings, assist with logistics planning and promotion of the event. Work at the event itself as Volunteer Coordinator. This is great experience and a lot of fun! Desired skills: excellent organizational, interpersonal and writing skills.
Graphic Design Intern: We always have fun and exciting design projects for print and electronic formats. Assignments can include event posters, ads and rack cards, website banners, thank you cards, flyers and more! You will need experience with InDesign and Photoshop, and you will learn the District branding.
Marketing Intern: Write news articles, take photographs to share via social media, assist with social media campaigns, promote events and brainstorm for ideas to promote the Rink at Parade Plaza. Desired Skills: strong writing, editing and copywriting skills. Good attention to detail, interpersonal skills and a desire to "thank outside the box".
Though unpaid, a New London Main Street internship provides you with a wealth of real-world experience. You'll have an opportunity to network with the downtown community, as well as the Main Street staff, board, volunteers and other interns.
We require a minimum of 2 full days per week or 3 half days per week. The more time you can give to the internship, the more you will get out of it. We have had interns spend 40 hour weeks (Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm), and this schedule is ideal.
