National Day of Service: Backpacks with Healthy Snacks for Kids

President Obama is asking Americans to reflect on our shared values and honor the legacy of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. with a "National Day Of Service." In response, New London resident Michelle Allen is organizing a "Backpack with Healthy Snacks" project for children in need. Residents from Southeastern Connecticut are invited to participate by donating a new unisex backpack filled with healthy snacks – peanut butter, rice cakes, animal crackers, nuts, dried fruits, graham crackers, whole grain pretzels / crackers, granola bars, trail mix, light popcorn, Cheerios - for our area children ages 7-12 to help fill the Gemma E. Moran United Way Labor Food Center truck. Donations may be dropped off at Madry Temple Church parking lot, 25 Manwaring Street, New London, CT 06320 on Saturday, January 19 from 9 AM - 5 PM.
