Coast Guard Band Concert - Afternoon at the Movies: Captain's Favorites
Share |
The Coast Guard Band presents a concert of music from and inspired by movies. Captain Megan, who retires later in the year, leads the Band on his last concert in the popular annual series. Aptly titled "Captain's Favorites," the Band performs CAPT Megan's favorite selections.

Kicking off the program is Lalo Schifrin's exhilarating Theme from "Mission Impossible." Bruce Broughton's Academy Award nominated music from the Western "Silverado" is always a crowd favorite. No movie concert would be complete without acclaimed composer John Williams. The Band performs "American Journey," a concert suite of music adapted from his score for Steven Spielberg's 1999 brief documentary, "The Unfinished Journey." CAPT Megan pays tribute to film pioneers Laurel and Hardy with the showing of the silent film "Double Whoopie." The Band's versatile percussion section is featured, providing background music and sound effects to accompany the film. Soprano soloist Megan Weikleenget sings "A Rodgers and Hammerstein Memoir," and the Band's assistant director, Chief Warrant Officer Richard Wyman, conducts the 2011 piece, "As Midnight on a Moonless Night."

This event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required. Leamy Concert Hall is accessible to the handicapped. For more information on the Coast Guard Band, visit or call the Concert Information Line at (860) 701-6826. In the case of inclement weather, call (860) 701-6826.
