NLMS Structure & Organization
Overview
New London Main Street works through its four standing committees (Design, Economic Enhancement, Organization, and Promotion), each with a distinct but complementary work plan geared towards strengthening the economic base, improving the image, and marketing the district. The program maintains an office with one staff member in the heart of the district, which serves as headquarters for over 100 volunteers. The program is funded by the City of New London, City Center District, and the region's leading corporations and foundations.
The New London program is based upon the model developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Main Street Center and is part of a network of 1,600 programs nationwide that share strategies and tactics.
Core Committees
Downtown New London's Historic Waterfront District is our "product-line." Like a business, we have to plan what we are going to sell, make our products attractive, study our competitors, and gage how our line is doing in the marketplace. These aspects are divided into four committees that are accountable, again like a business, to our board of directors and the larger membership of New London Main Street. Each committee may elect to have sub-committees to perform specific tasks or projects that supports the overall duties and responsibilities of the committee and the Main Street Program.
When you join New London Main Street you can volunteer to work on one of our four committees, seek election to our board of directors, work once or twice a year on one of our promotions or special events, or take on some of the essential administrative tasks in our office. The volunteer opportunities are only limited by the time and effort that a member feels comfortable in donating to New London Main Street.
Your participation is welcome in any of the New London Main Street committees. Please contact the corresponding committee chair for further information about their committee.
