Supporting Business in the Downtown Waterfront District

The City of New London's Plan of Conservation and Develpment, Chapter 8 expands on how the city government plans to "…Encourage continuing revitalization of Central Business District and role as a mixed-use office, retail, service, financial, cultural, religious, tourist government center." (Plan of Conservation and Develpment [pdf])

The Facade Improvement Program consists of three facade programs, for which business or residential buildings downtown may be eligible. The largest, the Facade Improvement Program is specifically for buildings "fronting on a City street located in the downtown City Center District" and includes a grant of up to $50,000. The City Center Sign Improvement Program sets up to $1,999 aside for signs & awnings, while the most restricted program is set up for facades of buildings facing South Water Street.
